Family for Every Child is initiating a process for developing global inter-agency guidance on kinship care aimed at policy makers and programme managers. The guidance will be designed to convince governments, UN agencies and NGOs about the need to prioritise support to kinship care. The guidance will also outline the key components of this support, providing examples of promising practice.

This guidance is needed as evidence from across the world shows that kinship care is widely neglected, with kinship carers often left to look after highly vulnerable children with no or minimal assistance.

When those engaged in care reform do acknowledge the importance of supporting kinship care, they are often unsure about how to offer this support. There is a tendency to provide simplistic solutions which do not acknowledge that kinship carers may need different types of support to parents, or the different needs across the range of kinship care arrangements.

In this online event, we will introduce the process that we're starting on for developing the guidance and the different avenues for practitioners to engage in and input into the development of this guidance. We will further explore why this guidance is so important and how it will be used.
