The study “We Need to Do Better: Climate Related Disasters and Child Protection in Southeast Asia” will be launched in a short online event at 3PM (GMT+8) on Wednesday 16 March 2022

Conducted in 2021 by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC)  and the Global Child Protection Area of Responsibility (CP AoR), the study is part of the IFRC campaign “We Need to Do Better” which focuses on enhancing the protection of children in climate related disasters.

The report reveals that even though climate related disasters affect each person in the region, children are particularly at risk. They make up a large portion of the population of the Southeast Asia and are most vulnerable to encountering violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation in

disaster settings, while systems to protect them do not always work. The study also highlights that there are no specific laws in place to protect children from violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation when disasters happen. While children and adolescent are at increased risk

during and after disasters, they overwhelmingly feel that they do not have the information needed to be safe from potential violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation in climate related disasters.

At the launch, the report’s authors and some of the youth who participated  in the study will present the findings and discuss the recommendations and actions needed with representatives from National Societies, UNICEF, World Vision and ASEAN.

We invite you to attend this important event on 16 March from 3pm to 4:15pm GMT +8.
